Ausmond LaRay Willden

November 6, 1933 - September 6, 2018

Funeral Service 11 AM Tuesday September 11, 2018

LaRay passed from this life on September 6, 2018 after almost 85 years of living what he called “the good life”.  He was born Nov 6, 1933 to Ausmond C. and Luetella Anderson Willden in Scipio, Utah, the 6th of 7 children. He lived and loved the life of a small town farm boy.

He Graduated from Fillmore High School and was attending Snow College when a good Bishop asked him to serve a mission. In 1954 he was called as a Missionary to the East Central States Mission where he served honorably for 2 years. While at a Mission Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, he met his future wife who was serving as a Branch Missionary in the Memphis Branch. They were married January 8, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

After graduating from Snow College in 1961 he moved his family to Logan to finish school at USU. He would spend 26 years working for Mt. Fuel Supply (Questar Gas/Dominion) and retiring in 1991 to take care of his family, his garden and yard. Anyone who knew LaRay knew he loved to be outside working with his children growing things.

LaRay always loved and served his Heavenly Father and Savior in any capacity he was called to from Bishoprics to a Coordinator in the Logan Temple Baptistry. Mostly, he loved serving others and always had a number of older people he looked out after, whether he was their Home Teacher or not. He and his children shoveled walks in the winter, tilled gardens in the summer and he ruly loved his neighbor as himself, as the Savior taught us.

He is survived by his wife Barbara and 7 children; Delwin (Juli), Dale (Sherry), Donna (Scott), Dixie [Todd), Dallas (Julie), Darla (Paul) and Dennis (Amy), 28 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with one due in December. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by 1 sister, Anna Lue (Ray) Walbeck.

Visitation will be September 10, 2018, from 6 to 8 PM and services for LaRay will be held on September 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. All services will be held in the Nibley 6″ Ward Church 360 West 3200 South, Nibley, Utah with interment at the Millville Nibley Cemetery.

We want to express our grateful thanks for the Cache Valley Mortuary for their kindness and help at this difficult time of our life. Words are not enough to thank you.

We would also like to thank Dr. Michael Stones for his concern and care for LaRay during the last 30 years and also the IHC Hospice Group for their tender care and help during this difficult time. Thanks to Anna and her group as they helped prepare us for the things that were coming and made this a sweet experience in our lives.

I was sitting with LaRay at the Sunshine Terrace waiting for the sunday service to start when he leaned over and said "I have to be careful coming here..... They may want to take me back to a room". His sense of humor and quick wit always brought a smile to those around him.

I am grateful to have know the Willden Family back in the 2nd Ward days back in the 70's & 80's LaRay was in Young mens and I remember how he made the high adventure campout in the Uintahs a special and lasting memory. LaRay was fun and interesting to be around - his back yard and shop was a young boys dream to play and learn. Thank you LaRay and family, Y'all are the salt of the earth. God Bless You.

When suddenly released from scouting, I saw that he had moved back from the bench behind the deacons. I asked if he was all right . He said he had found that the church could get along just fine without him, but he couldn't get along without the church. Shortly thereafter he was called to the high council and Logan Second Ward bishopric. That has stuck with me ever since. Thanks, LaRay and family.

I will always love Brother Willden and his family. As close as I was to him, I could never call him LaRay. Out of respect, he was always Brother Willden. With kindness and love and patience, he made me a better person. He never gave up on me or anyone. I was a better missionary or even a missionary at all because of him. When I was about to turn 18 and hadn’t finished my Eagle Scout, he wasn’t about to let that happen. He didn’t do the work for me, but he pushed and prodded and encouraged and never gave up on me.We had wonderful family experiences together! Our friendship with the Willden Family made us better people.I believe I’m a better husband, father, grandfather, friend, and person because of the mentoring in my life by Brother LaRay Willden. I love him!!! The best word I can think of to describe him is he was kind!

My deepest sympathy for your loss. May you find comfort in Jehovah God’s promise to swallow up death forever and soon end all our suffering. (Rev. 21:3-5; Isa. 25:8) Peace to you during this difficult time.
- James
