Leona May (Thompson) Newbold, born September 30, 1940, passed away Feb 1, 2019 peacefully at home in North Logan, Utah. She was the wife of Donald R. Newbold III, to whom she was married for 59 years. Born in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of Opal and Lorenzo Thompson. Leona was the third child in a family of eight. She graduated from Garfield High in East Los Angeles and then became a licensed cosmetologist. She was also employed at Cache Valley Cheese. Leona was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was an active member of the Relief Society. She was also called to serve in the primary and was very proud of her roles with the children. She enjoyed numerous hobbies and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as the most caring and supportive companion, wife, mother, and grandmother. For a time, she unselfishly supported the family allowing her husband to finish his education at Utah State University. She leaves her devoted husband of 59 years, Donald R Newbold III, and children: Lory Cathleen Newbold of Millville, Donald R Newbold IV (Jim Runyan) of Cathedral City, CA, John Michael Newbold (Deanna) of Hyrum, Gregory Scott Newbold (Priscilla) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and grandchildren: Evan & Emily Kramer of Boise, ID, Megan, Abby & Tyler Newbold of Hyrum and Elliot, Xander, Lincoln & Drake Newbold of Charlotte, North Carolina. She also leaves siblings: William, Melvin, Eleanor, Anna, John and David. A brother, Robert, preceded her in death. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cache Valley Mortuary. A viewing will be held Friday, February 8, 2019 from 6-8 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building located at 1105 East 2100 North in North Logan, UT. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11 am in the same building and will be preceded by a public viewing from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Internment will take place at the North Logan Cemetery. We love you and miss you “Lee”.
