Sarah Jane Summers Clayton, age 50 passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2018. She was born September
24, 1967 in EI Paso, Texas and was the first child of Michael Howard Summers and Shary Keil Summers. During the

Sarah Jane’s passion was marching band. She taught band and orchestra at Bingham High School. She has
donated hundreds of volunteer hours helping the Mountain Crest High School and other Utah marching band over
a 25 year period, loving each hour spent helping young people enjoy music and band as she does. She was a
founding member of the Red Rocks Marching Band Invitational and served on their board. Sarah Jane passed that
passion on to her three daughters who have all participated in color guard and percussion.

Sarah Jane is survived by her husband, Thomas Brandon, and their three daughters, Amy, Abigail and Aubrey; her
mother, Shary Summers and three siblings, Heather Winward (Chad), Amy Wilcox (Jeff), and Bethany Nivison

I knew Sarah through marching band at Mountain Crest High School. I played in the percussion section from 2009-2012 and later returned to help teach and was privileged to be on staff with Sarah. Her influence reached high and forward to all of the students she taught and because of her and other great teachers I am getting a degree in Music Education because of it. Thank you, Sarah. Your dedication will not be forgotten and will be passed down for years to come.

I grew up in Providence and went to high school with Sara at Mountain Crest, graduating with her in ‘86. I was in Marching Band also, as a saxophone and drum major. I wasn’t a close friend, but when you were in marching band, everyone felt like family. Sara was always fun to be around, always very sweet and treated everyone so well. I’ve run into her occasionally over the years, and she was always just as sweet and kind. I was saddened to hear another one of the “band family” had passed away. I’m sure she’s brightening up the world where she is now! Rest In Peace, Sara. God bless your family.

My dear cousin, you are already missed by all your family, but we know you’re where we WILL see you again. I love you so very much and know you’d want us to celebrate and cherish who you’ve been to so many throughout your beautiful life. I love you.

I met Sarah Jane at USU in the music department. We were both freshman and helped each other with our music classes. We became good friends. I could always depend on her for support. She was a sweet spirit and fun to hang around. I miss her positive attitude and I will always be grateful for our friendship.
