Afton Ricks Jones

September 24, 1936 — February 13, 2016

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sweetheart, and Friend, passed away in her sleep early Saturday morning at her home in Providence. Afton was born in Logan, Utah, the second child of Harold and Alta Ricks of Benson. She lived her life being the joy in every room she entered, some of it due to her striking beauty and her fiery red hair, but mostly from her quick wit and her ability to make everyone around her feel loved. She was a big fan of two teams: the Utah Jazz or ANY team involving her kids or grandkids. She simply adored her children, grandchildren, and great grand children, often from the sidelines and in recent years from her rocking chair but she let everyone know how proud she was of them. She also loved beautiful things like jewelry and dolls which she collected as a gift to her granddaughters and as a legacy of her beauty for everyone. Afton was truly a light that will continue to shine brightly in our memories! Afton married Rodney Hauser Jones on 19 January 1962. Together, they lived a legacy of devotion for 54 years, giving each other the type of unconditional love that was admired by many. They solemnized their marriage for time and eternity in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Preceded in death were her parents, brother Lynn, and a daughter Patti Ann. She is survived by her beloved husband, her sister Shirlene Coleman, and her children: Brent (Marilyn), Gary (Mark), Mike (Annie), Todd (Kelly), and Tammy (Toby) Reid; She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and it is worth saying, she never missed a birthday. A public viewing will be held at the Providence 3rd Ward Building, 355 Canyon Road, Wednesday February 17, from 9:30-11:00. Per Afton’s wishes, instead of a funeral a private service for family members will be held after the viewing. After that, a graveside service will follow at the Providence City cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cache Valley Mortuary, 3207 North Main Street North Logan Utah, (435)-787-8514. Condolences may be shared online @ www.cvmortuary.com .
