Alan Charles Spencer, 67, passed away on March 18, 2022 from congestive heart failure. Born in American Fork, Utah on October 20, 1954 to Ralph H. and Betty G. Spencer, Alan was the third of four children. He developed a passion for archaeology early and spent many days by Utah Lake looking for fossils. By 15, Alan was a crew chief with the BYU archaeology field school, and at 17 he graduated from American Fork HS. After spending his summer with the American Archaeological Expedition to Petra, Alan started his scholastic career at BYU. From there, Alan served an LDS Mission to Dallas/Fort Worth, and upon his return to BYU completed his BS with honors, and would later go on to earn his Master’s and PH.D from the University of Leicester in Leicester, England. Alan married Leesa Gurney in the Salt Lake Temple on June 25,1982 and having accepted a job with the NRCS in Portland, Alan and Leesa went on to live in the Portland area for 24 years. After spending another 14 years in Little Rock, the couple retired to Clarkston in 2019. Alan is survived by his wife, Leesa, his five children,12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
