Anna Mae Hayball

June 13, 1926 — November 12, 2023

Anna Mae Hayball, 97 graduated from this life on November 12, 2023, in Logan, Utah.
Anna Mae was born on June 13, 1926 in Mineola, Long Island, New York to William Arlington Young and Anna Lerochova Young. She was the second daughter and grew up along side her big sister, Pauline (Phil) Martino (deceased). Anna Mae’s childhood was spent in Haverstraw, NY where she attended public schools and graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1944.
Anna Mae married Robert Eugene Knowlton on December 31, 1944 in New York, New York. They had one son, Gary Paul Knowlton. Robert and Anna Mae later divorced.
Anna Mae’s second marriage was to the ‘love of her life’ Leland Wayne Hayball. They met at a dance in Hyrum at Elite Hall and were married in Elko, NV on July 11. 1965. Anna Mae was excited to be a part of her new family that included Julie Ann (George) Wilson (deceased), L. Ralph Hayball (deceased), Linda Lee (Paul) Haines, Jan W. (Raelene) Hayball and Chris A. (Joanne) Hayball.
Anna Mae was an adventurous woman working in several different industries in her life starting as a young reporter and becoming the Managing Editor of the Rockland County Messenger in Haverstraw. Her most exciting interview was with Burgess Meredith (actor).
She freelanced for other newspapers and also did legal work. She loved people and was as she always said, not ‘nosey’ but ‘newsy’. Being a reporter one had to know the difference.
Anna Mae was a member of the Insurance Women of Wheeling West Virginia, representing Traveler’s Insurance.
In May of 1964 Anna Mae decided she wanted to come to Utah to live near the beautiful Rocky Mountains. As a little girl she drew pictures of the mountains and dreamt of the day she would see them.
Upon her arrival to Utah she was employed at Hill Air Force Base and living in Ogden. After her marriage to Wayne and relocation to Hyrum she worked at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City. She also worked at Utah State University and after her retirement she volunteered for several years at Logan Regional Hospital.
Anna Mae loved people, cats, dogs, birds and most of all loved the Lord with all her heart. She never met a stranger just new friends wherever she went.
Anna Mae is survived by her son, Gary Knowlton of W. Virginia, stepchildren, Linda (Paul) Haines of Piqua, OH, Jan (Raelene) Hayball of Harrisville, UT, Chris (Joanne) Hayball of S.Weber, UT, a wealth of nieces, nephews, and the light of her life her grandchildren, great-grand children and great great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne, stepchildren, Julie Ann Wilson, Julie’s husband George and Ralph Hayball, her sister Pauline Martino and brother-in-law Phil Martino.
