Barnett Kay Moss Sr.

April 13, 1939 — May 6, 2018

Barnett Kay Moss Sr., 79, of Smithfield, passed away on May 6, 2018 at his home. Kay was born on April 13th 1939 in American Falls, Idaho to Gladys Mae Johnson and Norman Kay Moss.
His mother passed away when he was just 4 years old and his brother Newell was 2. His father then married Lola Mary Robbins who loved and raised the boys as her own. Eight more siblings were born making Kay the oldest of ten children.
Kay attended Rockland High School and was proud to be part of the group of 19 who were the graduating Class of 1957. This special group remained lifelong friends. “Go Bulldogs.”
After graduation he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Eastern Canadian Mission in Toronto, Ontario from 1960-1962. President Thomas S. Monson was his mission president.
Kay served in the army during the Vietnam war stationed at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii from 1963-1965.
Kay married Marsha Taylor in June of 1966. They had two children Debra and Jeremy. They divorced in 1977.
Kay then married Terri Janis Eagar in March of 1980. They have three children Sara, Barnett Kay Jr. and Lynn.
Family meant the world to Kay. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He spent time with them no matter how far he had to travel to do so. He looked forward all year to spending time with his siblings and their families at the annual Moss Family Reunion.
Growing up on a wheat farm Kay was no stranger to hard work. He loved providing for his family and serving others. He worked for a number of years as a commercial driver for Karren Oil, Jardine Petroleum, Thurston Construction, Rhine Construction and others. After retirement he worked for Intermountain Staffing .
Kay was always positive and his faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ never wavered. Kay served everyone in any way he could. He truly believed a stranger was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. He always had a smile and kind word to share. He served in many callings in the LDS Church. A faithful home teacher to the end.
Kay is survived by his wife Jan and his children Debra (Lee), Jeremy (Angel), Sara, Barnett Kay Jr. and Justin. His grandchildren Riley, Halle, Daniel, Tamsen and Jacob. His siblings Brent, Bruce, Troy,Roseanna, Leona Gay, Norla and Charmayne.
Kay was preceded in death by his father Norman, mothers Gladys and Lola, his brothers Newell and Travis and his son Lynn.
The family wishes to thank all who served in so many ways especially the Smithfield 1st Ward, Dr. Kreg Love and Access Home Health and Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Smithfield LDS church located at 175 South 100 West in Smithfield. There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm and from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services, both will be at the church. Interment will be at the Smithfield City Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donation be made to help with funeral expenses.
