Betty Louise Tidwell, 80, a resident of Smithfield, and a former resident of Ripley, Tennessee passed away January 11th, 2024 peacefully at Transitional Hospice Care at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah.
Betty was the 12th of 14 children, born September 30th, 1943 in Hillsboro, Oregon to Richard Edward Smith and Esther May Graham. She was raised on Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains in a small 2-bedroom home with no indoor plumbing. Her father was a strawberry farmer on Pumpkin Ridge Road and her mother a homemaker.
She enjoyed reading her bible every morning, gardening and staying active when hear health would allow her, playing cards, collecting butterflies and crosses. She attended Finley Baptist Church for many years before relocating to Ripley, TN, often taking one of her many grandchildren with her on Sundays.
Betty was married several times, but when she met her husband, Ernest Ray Tidwell she knew she had found the one she was longing for. She always said she fell in love with his mother before falling for him. They were married April 4th 1988 in Amity, Oregon.
Betty and Ray eventually moved back to Tennessee in the late 90s to be closer to his family. Together they lived in Finley for many years until her husband passed away. Ray passed away in 2012.
Betty is survived by 3 daughters, Jessica (John) Butler of Smithfield, UT, Danielle (Wayne Goodwin) Foster of Ripley, TN and Theresa Calhoun of Oregon. She is also survived by sister, Allene Coleman of California, sister-in-law Janet Smith of Beaverton, OR, 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Ernest Ray Tidwell, two daughters, Jennifer and DeeAnn Knoke, great-grandson, Colton Foster, parents, Richard and Esther Smith, 12 siblings, Lorraine (Roy) Hagen, Richard ‘Rocky’ Smith, Lois (John) Meck, Eleanor (Lee) Morehouse, Dorothy (Albert) LaMont, Wayne Smith, Dolly (Bill) Johnson, Wilma Freeman, Danny Dale Smith, Charles 'Chuckie' Smith, an infant sister Margaret Smith and an infant brother Peter Smith.
Cache Valley Mortuary is in charge of cremation. Per her wishes there will be no services.
