Billy Ray Hervey

July 10, 1936 — May 8, 2023

Billy Ray Hervey (Grandpa Country), 86, passed away on May 8, 2023 in his Wellsville home.

Bill was born on July 10, 1936 to Juanita & Bill (William) Addison Hervey in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

Bill served 8 years in the Air Force, and during that time he found and married the love of his life, Betty Lou Hervey. Their union lasted for 61 years. They went on to have three children which are Lorrie (daughter), Mike (son), and Brian (son). There are an additional 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren that completed his family circle.

Bill was an avid book collector and reader. He loved educating himself and always encouraged others to do the same. To him, accumulating knowledge to prepare yourself for life and what it has to throw at you was important.

What bill was best known for was being and Entertainer and Songwriter. One of his best-known songs was "Someone Had to Teach You" sung by George Strait. Among others, Bill's favorite thing to do was going down to the Honky Tonk and entertaining the masses there with his unique self-written songs. He was the happiest when he could write and sing his songs for himself and others. Bill will be missed by all those who knew him.
