Blaine Leishman Anderson, 87, of Wellsville, Utah, passed away on November 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by his children.
Blaine was born February 26, 1936 in Wellsville, Utah to Eldon Blaine Wyatt Anderson and Norine Smith Leishman. He was the second of 5 children. He had two brothers who passed away early in life. Blaine was raised with his two sisters.
Blaine was preceded in death by his wife Luella Jane Johnson Anderson, his daughter Karla Worthen, a grandson Travis James Anderson, his brother Gilbert Von Leishman Anderson, and his brother Paul Leishman Anderson. Blaine is survived by his children Kim (Greg) Gohlinghorst, DelVon (Janna) Anderson, Byron (Diane) Anderson, and Trudy (Loyd) Bybee; 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and his sisters Connie Marie Leishman and Carol Nielsen.
Blaine grew up in Wellsville. He spent his younger years working on his family farm. He said he didn’t have much time for play as he was tending to the 100 animals that were on the farm at any given time. He would ride his horse to school from the farm. When he did have spare time, he went fishing. He had a love for fishing. He went fishing with his son DelVon just 22 days before he passed. He was an avid hunter in his younger years taking his two sons with him.
Blaine met his wife Luella at Logan High School on the basketball court. In a recent conversation earlier this month, my grandpa told me that grandma chased him. I asked my grandpa how he proposed to grandma and he told me he didn’t, and that she proposed to him. Then he chuckled. Blaine married Luella Jane Johnson Anderson in December 1955.
After they married, they moved into an apartment and paid $25 a month in rent. Blaine took a job at Millers in Hyrum. After about 6 months he was hired at Hill Air Force Base and worked on electronics on the airplanes. He worked there for 25 years and 3 months. Then he bought his family farm and worked the farm for 35 years. Blaine learned much about repairing farm equipment during those years. Either he fixed it or it didn’t get fixed.
In recent years Blaine became an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 2020 he attended the Logan Utah temple for the first time. In 2021 he received his patriarchal blessing. In his blessing it states that Blaine’s example will be priceless to the coming generation. His story is one of transformation and hope and that it is never too late to change through the atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
