Carl James Sorenson, 86, of Hyrum Utah passed away March 3, 2025 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on May 12, 1938 in Logan, Utah to Lawrence James Sorenson and Mollie Nye.
Carl lived in McCammon, Idaho for a time when he was a child. He once rode his horse from Logan to Bear Lake.
He graduated from Logan High School. His parents always made sure that he had nice cars to drive. Carl was asked to drive the mayor in a local parade in his purple convertible.
Carl married Rene Kofoed, they later divorced.
Carl married Elaine Jensen, they later divorced.
Dad worked in California for Lockheed Martin where he machined the prototype rear tail strut for the L-10-11 aircraft using titanium which at the time was considered an exotic metal.
During the 1970’s he owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station on Main Street in Logan.
Carl loved working in Germany as an employee of Morton International. He worked with Mercedes to develop the automotive air-bag system. After being in Germany he appreciated their preference for warm beer.
He spent the majority of his life as a landlord.
A favorite family pass time was boating, there were many trips spent at the trailer house parked at bear lake and annual trips to Lake Powell. Throughout his lifetime Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and planting trees. Carl loved animals he always had a dog. His favorite childhood dog was named Tippy. His last dog was named Kit and she was by his side until the very end.
Carl is survived by his daughter Tammie Burr (Bart), his son Christopher Sorenson (Janeice), several grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at the gravesite at a later date.
Carl will be greatly missed.
