Carol Joy Harrison

October 3, 1941 — December 4, 2024

Smithfield, Utah

Carol Joy Hoffman Ricks Harrison was born in Logan, Utah on October 3, 1941. She was the fourth child of Albert Alton Hoffman and Janet Louise Syme. Carol grew up on the family farm in Benson, Utah, graduating from North Cache High School 1959.

She married her first husband, Harold Lynn Ricks in the Logan LDS Temple in 1960. They were the parents to three children Craig, Dee, and Carilynn. After Lynn’s death she married her second husband, Gerald Lee Harrison in 1984, and became a step-mother to his 6 children.

For many years, Carol's passion centered around her love for horses. She participated in the Canter Club, Skyline Cutter Association, Horse 4-H program, Cache Sheriff's Mounted Posse, and numerous breed and open horse shows. As a 4-H leader, she found great satisfaction coaching children and grandchildren in horse-related competitions. Later in life, she enjoyed riding side-by-sides on the trails of both Northern and Southern Utah. Many of her closest friends came as a result of these activities.

Carol is survived by her husband, Jerry Harrison; her son, Craig (Tracey) Ricks; daughter-in-law Suzette Ricks, daughter, Carilynn (Jared) Hardy; stepdaughters Jill (Eric) Helland; Jennifer (Jade) Johnson, stepsons Lance (Mary), Jay (Ellie), Josh (Pamela), Kenneth (Trista) Harrison and 25 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Lynn, a son Harold Dee, a sister Trudy Hoffman Downs, and brothers Alton and Robert Hoffman and their spouses.
