Charles Nathan Hales

Charles Nathan Hales passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 22,2022 at the age of 84. Charles was born on February 27, 1938 in Spanish Fork, Utah. He is the oldest child of Nathan Bradford and Marion Groesbeck Hales. Charles grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. Charles served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Africa. He attended BYU and received a masters degree in education.

Charles married his wife Janet Whitaker on August 15, 1962 in the Manti, Utah Temple. Together they raised 8 children on a dairy farm in Burley, Idaho. Charles loved farming, ranching, gardening, and his family. He will be known for his wise advice and his delicious sweet corn. Charles was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in various callings. He and Janet served three missions together.

Charles is survived by his wife Janet and their eight children, Colleen (Jed) Woodward, Allen (Kristi) Hales, Doug (Jeanne) Hales, Marianne (Wayne) Christensen, Howard (Melanie) Hales, Lisa (Geoff) Settle, Amy (Eric) Beck, and Brad (Rachel) Hales; their 33 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Yeck and brother, Steve (Cynthia) Hales.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carol Hales Fisher.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the Newton Chapel, 76 S 100 W Newton, Utah. There will be a viewing held Wednesday evening, July 27, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church and Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be at the Newton Cemetery.
