Clifford Gardner Hyer passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023.
Dad was the oldest son of Gardner Orson Hyer and Ellen Keupani Burke born in Honolulu, Hawaii April 27, 1945. He has 3 siblings Ralph Mench, Steven Hyer in O’ahu Hawaii and Carol Brummund, New Mexico.
He attended elementary through high school where he had a great love for baseball. He loved being able to go to the beach, race cars and stir up any trouble he could in Hawaii. He was a mechanic by trade and was able to work side by side with his Dad at Hyer’s Chevron which Grandpa owned until his death in 1987.
At the age of 18 he had plans to join the military but at the last second, he decided to go to Utah and attend USU like his Dad. That decision was the best thing he ever decided to do because he met his honey Aurelia Thatcher and everything changed after that. We think though he fell in love with Grandma Thatcher first then our Mom. They lived in several places over the years starting in Hawaii living with his parents. They returned to Utah where they were blessed with 8 children. Mendon was always home to him before living in Benson.
He joined the church in 1973 and this began his love of the church and all it stood for. Dad had a love for cars but to be precise hot rods and owned many over the years but his second true love in life was his 1939 Studebaker. Dad was a hard worker starting from sunup to sundown and was a master of all and there wasn’t anything that man couldn’t fix or take care of. He worked at many different places over the years as a mechanic at LeGrand Johnson, Century 21 and ATK Thiokol, Autoliv and countless hours in his garage working on cars for anyone who needed help. He was very blessed with his amazing mechanical talents he would share with anyone willing to learn but especially his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife Aurelia of 59 years, Darren Hyer (Jacksonville, FL), Leilani (Greg) Taylor (Smithfield, UT), Carrie (Chris) Kleven (Smithfield, UT), Jared (Mari) Hyer, (Tremonton, UT), Holly (Jeff) Collins (Bern, ID), Mandy (Steve) Marshall, (Syracuse, UT), Amberlee (Jon Davies) Benson, UT and 25 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with the the 8th joining us in May of 2023. Dad had such a special kind of love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his beloved son Troy Hyer, second set of parents Orson and Emelie Thatcher and 1 brother-in-law Sid Thatcher and sister-in-laws Sharon Thatcher, Lillian Thatcher and Janis Thatcher and is nephew Steven Hyer.
