Colleen Hales Woodward, plant and adventure enthusiast, passed away August 11, 2022, at the age of 59 at LDS Hospital surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Colleen was born on July 24,1963, in Payson, Utah, to Charles and Janet Hales.
She was the oldest of eight children. She spent her childhood in Spanish Fork, Utah, on the farm with her dad and grandpa. Later, the family moved to Burley, Idaho, where she graduated high school. She attended Ricks College and graduated with an associate degree in horticulture in May 1983. After college, she moved to Salt Lake City, and worked for Western Garden Center where she developed her love of plants.
On May 6, 1987, Colleen married Jed Grant Woodward in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple. She remained a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life. They had four children while living in Kearns, Utah. In 1999, they moved to Newton, Utah, to help with the Woodward farm. With her passion for plants, she opened Plum Crazy Greenhouse in 2007.
She lived life to the fullest and was always up for an adventure. She was an avid skier (water and snow), snowboarder, hiker, biker, kayaker, and pickleball enthusiast. Colleen loved working in her yard and eating fresh produce from her garden. She joined the Hiking Liking Ladies and went on many adventures with her newfound friends. She made sure those around her hiked every peak and identified every flower. She spent her life serving others. There was never a church, community or family function that she wasn’t serving or helping out. Colleen was an EMT for Newton Town for many years
She is survived by her husband, Jed, and 4 children, Jessica (Spencer) Wickham, Kacie, Tyler, and Kylee Woodward and grandson, Brooks Wickham. She is also survived by her mother, Janet Hales, mother-in-law, Ruby Woodward, and her 7 siblings; Allen (Kristi) Hales, Doug (Jeanne) Hales, Marianne (Wayne) Christensen, Howard (Melanie) Hales, Lisa (Geoff) Settle, Amy (Eric) Beck, and Brad (Rachel) Hales. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Hales, and father-in-law, Jay Woodward.
Both viewing and funeral services will be held at the Newton Chapel, 76 S 100 W Newton, Utah. There will be a viewing Monday evening, August 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A short viewing will also be held Tuesday, August 16, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM. Interment service will be held at Newton Cemetery, 1005 N 100 W in Newton, Utah following the funeral services. Those unable to attend in person can join via Zoom.
