David Glenn Reeder, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 21, 1938, in Inglewood, California, to David Glenn Reeder, Sr. and Wanda Woodhouse, David was the youngest of two children. His family relocated to San Diego, California, during his childhood, a place filled with fond memories and the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith and service.
David dedicated his life to his family, his church, and his community. A proud alumnus of the University of California at Los Angeles, where he studied biology, he also honorably served in the United States Air Force. His commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was unwavering. He served as a missionary in Scotland in his youth and later in Germany with his beloved wife, Arlene, as senior missionaries.
David’s professional life was as varied as it was impactful, including teaching religion classes through LDS seminary at Granite High School in Utah, and Marsh Valley Junior High School in Idaho, and English classes at North Cache Middle School in Richmond, Utah; working as a draftsman; and bringing joy to many through his work at the community movie theatre in Lewiston, Utah.
David was a father to eleven children, whom he deeply loved. He fully embraced family life with his wife, Alta, creating and enjoying a multitude of memories in the Cache Valley area of northern Utah and southern Idaho. His final years were spent in blissful retirement with his wife Arlene in Colorado and ultimately Arizona, enjoying over two decades of marriage filled with love and mutual respect.
He leaves behind his wife, Arlene, his children: Rebecca, John, Elizabeth, Steven, Deborah, Dorcas, Ruth, James, Sarah, and Thomas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss his guidance and affection. David was preceded in death by his wife Alta, his daughter Heather, and his sister Sharon.
David will be remembered as a man of deep faith, dedicated service, and profound love for his country and family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 4:00pm at Messinger Indian School Mortuary at 7601 E Indian School Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. A graveside memorial will be held at the Lewiston Cemetery on May 22, 2024 at 1:00pm in Lewiston, Utah where he will be laid to rest.
