Forrest Austin Helms

Forrest Austin Helms was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Twin Falls, Idaho to Theodore Austin and Ellen Louise (Johnson) Helms. He passed away peacefully July 15, 2015 in Twin Falls after a long and hard battle with long disease. Forrest was joined by a sister and brother before losing their mother. He and his siblings lived with his grandparents and aunts and uncles until his father met and married Leona Meyers. The family settled in the Oakley Valley. The family grew with 8 more siblings. He went to school and graduated in Oakley. When he was 9 years old he started driving tractor for Anderson Brothers after school. In 1950 he met Donna Joan Asher. On June 14, 1952 he married the love of his life. In the early days of their marriage Forrest continued working for Anderson Brothers, Mac Martin and later Leon Adams. To this union were born 2 children Sherrie (Dale) Martin, and Van Helms.Forrest and Donna were later sealed in the LDS Temple. He was by her side until her death January 13, 2001 from cancer.Forrest’s main enjoyment in life was family, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, taking trips in the car, and planes. We would take trips to Salt Lake to watch the planes come into land and he could tell you what the plane was before it landed. In his later years he enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer and doing genealogy. In 2003 he met Connie Bridges. They were married August 23,2003. He is survived by his children, grand children Kalyn Helms Burley, Id, Teresa (Derrick) O’Dell Kimberly, 10, and Irene (Gary) Miller McCool, NE, his great grand children Alec (Tara) Helms Morenci, AZ, Brandon (Miranda) Weeks Williston, ND, Cameron (Savanna) Weeks Burley, 10, Raymond O’Dell and Tyler O’Dell Kimberly, 10, Ashley Reynolds and Jarrad Miller York NE, Alicia (Cody) Rampel Henderson, NE, great great grand kids Shandei Helms, Rhyker Helms, Quinan Helms, and Taycer Helms all of Morenci, AZ, Jackson McGraw Henderson, NE, and Anyslie Weeks Williston, ND. He is also urvived by his mom, Leona and 8 of his siblings along with many (240) nieces, nephews, cousins, 3 great aunts and spouses and Connie and her children. He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen, wife Donna, his father, Sister Leona, and brother Robert. Everyone will miss him, He was our Rock. Van & I would like to thank the many people who helped him since his fall on June 14th, Cassia Hospital and staff, Dr Spackman, Portneff Hospital and staff, Park View and Staff, Life flight staff, and St Luke’s Regional ICU Staff. I would like to especially thank his sister Mary Helms for being there for Dad when I couldn’t and Van Helms for making the transition into Park View as pleasant for him as possible. Viewing will be July 20th 12 pm til 1:30 pm funeral will be at 2:00 pm at the Oakley LDS Church with burial at the Marion Cemetery.
