Gary Ned Spackman, 79, of Richmond, passed away April 3, 2018, in his sleep as the peaceful sounds of nature and a familiar childhood home surrounded him. Gary was born in Logan, Utah to Ned and Lucy Spackman. Raised in Richmond, Utah with his two brothers, Lavar and Rob, Gary left Richmond at age 18 to serve in the United States Air Force. Dad hung his hat in Salt Lake City, Utah where he married Kathleen Bleckert, and raised a daughter, Lanette Spackman Taylor, and a son, Brian Ned Spackman. Gary was an avid reader, an incredible story teller, and an adventurist through and through. Most often a quiet and stubborn man, when he did open up, he had the capacity to explain the world as anyone’s oyster, there for the taking. From childhood days at Lake Powell, to adulthood road trips along Glacier National Park, Dad was always willing and able to find that next greatest outdoor adventure. Later in life, Gary was graced with grandsons, Joshua Ludlow and Jeffrey Ludlow, whom he shared that adventurous spirit along the shores and deep seas of Mexico. Once retiring to Richmond, more grandkids brightened his world as Grayson and Alina Spackman added a smile and deep sense of pride to his full and long life. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was a constant and helpful presence as Dad took his journey through retirement, and his eventual sickness and death. The family would love to thank all of those men and women, scouts and society members who lent a hand in times of joy and times of need. Gary was forever grateful for the moments of help and acts of kindness he received, as is his family. In the event that flowers or financial thoughts are considered, please send to the Cache Humane Society, an ASPCA charitable organization. Dad was a lover of nature and animals, so this donation is only fitting. Arrangements are under the direction of Cache Valley Mortuary, 80 West 4200 North Hyde Park, 435-787-8514.
