Janene Bowen
March 30, 1957-January 13, 2023
How do you describe the life of a woman who embodied what it means to show Christ-like love and a passion for life? Whose slightly crooked yet brilliant smile lit up the room and the hearts of those she talked to. Whose life was studded with miracles that she both gave and received.
Strangers did not remain thus for long as they were quickly asked their name, which would end up on the birthday list for next year. Shortly after that occurred, the famous words would be heard loud and clear, repeatedly,” I love you, I love you, thank you.”
This resulted in countless people’s hearts being touched everywhere she went. No matter where she was, she represented what it meant to be a steadfast and loving daughter of God. Through numerous hours spent in the temple, or the small amounts of money she could spare to donate to missionary funds she always served others.
Before Janene fell ill with Wilson’s disease at 17, she had already shown her fierce spirit and talent for music through dancing and playing the piano and being a friend to everyone she met.
Despite the changes the disease wrought on her body, those attributes still shone bright. She spent countless hours with the support of her wonderful mother learning how to move the right side of her body and to speak again. Her efforts and participation in Wilson disease research greatly impacted what was known about the disease at the time. Everyone who heard her medical story was shocked at the miracle of the level of independence and physical abilities she regained. Speaking was a struggle but singing was how she shared her testimony. The words always rang clear in the songs she shared.
Much more could be said of the wonderful life that Janene led, but it would fill a novel. It would be remiss to not say that without the indefatigable efforts of her mother Roberta Bowen and other family members/friends, Janene wouldn’t have been able to reach as many as she did. Many thanks to all the people at the Utah State University speech department, Sunshine Terrace, Common Ground Outdoor, and Options for Independence who helped Janene on her journey.
Love one another as thou lovest me, is what all those that served Janene, and were served by her, came to understand more fully.
Preceded in death by her father Gary Bowen. Survived by her mother Roberta Bowen, sisters, Teresa Earley and Wendy Eliason, and brother Conrad Bowen.
Janene loved the color purple and butterflies if you would like to wear something to celebrate her memory at the service.
