Joan Larson Herd

Joan Larson Herd, 82 passed away peacefully Monday Sept. 26, 2017, in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her family. Joan was born on January 25, 1935, to Willard Abner and Sara Edrus Larson in Malad, Idaho. She has one older brother Paul Larson. She married Kermit James Herd Jr. in December of 1954, together they had nine children. Joan attended high school in Preston, Idaho where she excelled in scholastics and dance. Following graduation she attended Utah State University where she was an original Aggiette. After marrying, she devoted her life to raising her family and observing her faith. She returned to Utah State University after being a homemaker for 35 years and attained a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a 4.0 G.P.A, receiving her diploma the same year as her youngest son Shawn. She is survived by her children: Kristine (Pat Goodale) Prior, Billings, MT, Lauri (Alfie) Mackevicius, Omaha, NE, Kelly (Margie) Herd, Surprise, AZ, Dane Herd, Powell, WY, Nicole (Brian) Cooper, Sterling, UT, Alayne (Kevin) Nielsen, Logan, UT, Brett (Jaquelin) Herd, Portland, OR, Shawn (Bree) Herd, St. George, UT; her brother Paul (Valerie) Larson, Houston, TX. Joan has 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Herd, daughter-in-law Norma Herd, son-in-law Rick Nysingh, Kermit Herd Jr., and her parents Abner and Edrus Larson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cache Valley Mortuary, 80 W. 4200 N. Hyde Park, UT. Interment will follow at the Logan City Cemetery.
