John "Jack" Frederick Alley passed away peacefully from this earthly life on Feb. 4, 2014, following a brave battle with complications from diabetes. Jack was born in Salt Lake City on Dec. 27, 1960. He was raised in Midvale, Utah, and attended Granite High School. He was employed by Snow Carpet Cleaning before moving to Logan, Utah, in 1982. He was employed for several years at Alco/Saddleman Seat Covers. He began working for Herff Jones Yearbook Company as a Folder Operator and enjoyed his work there for over 20 years. Jack married the love of his life and soulmate, Lydia Rae Williams, on May 17, 1994. They were best friends and inseparable. Jack is the only son of George L. and Judith M. Alley. Jack loved music and turned that passion into becoming a talented bass guitar artist. He enjoyed attending concerts and, as he put it best, "keeping his finger on the pulse of the music industry." Jack loved classic cars and was an avid NASCAR fan. He had a talent for repairing automobiles of all makes and models. Jack was very humble about his talents and skills. He was the original "MacGyver" and could fix, repair or manufacture anything that came his way and did so with precision and perfection. He amazed everyone around him with his skill and expertise. Jack had an amazingly witty sense of humor which will be greatly missed. He maintained a positive and optimistic perspective on life and as his illness progressed never gave in to negativity. He was always concerned with the well-being of others in spite of his own discomfort. He continued to smile and persevere well beyond the point that others would have given up.Jack will be greatly missed by his wife and soul mate of 19½ years. Any time spent with Jack was an adventure and a good time. He is survived by his loving mother, Judith M. Alley, and his mother-in-law, LaVoy Williams, who loved him from the moment she met Jack. He leaves behind two much-loved children: his beautiful daughter, Donielle Nicholls, and his talented son, Kirby Norman, and three wonderful grandchildren: Tehya, Lily and Davyn Nicholls. He will be greatly missed by his aunt Dorothy Atkinson and uncle Dean Chidester.
