Jose A. Garcia

February 9, 1955 — December 26, 2023

Joe “Shorty” Garcia, 68, of North Logan, UT, died at home on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in the care of his family following a brief illness. He was born in Petronila, Texas to Jose M. Garcia and Camila Arredondo, the sixth of twelve children. He was a long-time resident of Port Aransas, Texas where he raised his children and was a familiar face at the local fishing marinas. He loved deep sea fishing, often working as a deck hand on the boats. He was well-known for his cooking: at local restaurants, on the oil rigs, or making tamales and baked goods for family and friends. Joe was also a veteran, having served in the Marine Corps as a young man during the Vietnam era. Shorty had many hobbies and was very outgoing, but he loved to sing Karaoke at The Salty Dog, Neptunes, and Lovett’s Bar. He is survived by his wife, Mary, five children, six grandchildren, three sisters, and four brothers. He is predeceased by his parents, four brothers, and one daughter. No funeral services are planned at this time. His wishes for his ashes to be released in the Gulf, where he felt most at home, will be carried out at some point in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of your preference.
