Karen Scholes Goodey died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at her home in Clarkston, Utah. She was 75 years old. She was born on August 24, 1943 in Logan, Utah to Sarah Katherine Chipman and William Scholes.
She grew up in Smithfield, Utah. Karen married LeRoy Ross Goodey on June 21, 1963 in the Logan Temple. They are the parents of seven children: Joell (Vean) Woodbrey, Rena Lish, Brayden (Tiffany) Goodey, Mandy (Miguel) Gonzalez, Megan (Jon) Kenney, Chantel (Steve) Bender, and Alyson (Brad) Jorgensen.
Karen was always a hard worker. As a girl, she worked as a car hop, grocery bagger, assistant at a barber shop, and at Del Monte. She put Roy through college by sewing. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society president, Primary teacher, counselor in the youth program (MIA), counselor in Relief Society, Primary chorister, counselor in the stake Primary, Relief Society teacher, historian, temple worker, and visiting teacher / ministering sister. Karen and Roy served a mission to Gainesville, Florida. She always served diligently in whatever calling she had. Sunbeams (the three-year-old class) was her favorite.
Karen loved humor and a good practical joke. She made excellent fake chocolates. She was a good cook and an avid reader. She put her kids first, so she didn’t finish her schooling at Utah State University. Her kids remember coming from school to fresh bread or cookies; she said that was worth more than a degree to her. Her family was her main hobby. She crocheted many baby blankets and other items to give away. She wrote poems and road shows; Nosy Nellie was one of the road shows. She believed in a reward system for a job well done. She always had good treats. Karen showed her love through service. She had numerous health challenges—multiple knee surgeries, operations on her neck, back, and many times on her poor, sore feet. Despite these many physical difficulties, she was not weary in well doing. She persevered no matter what. Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy, her seven children, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and four siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents.
