Karl and Deniece were married June 20, 1970, in Los Gatos, California. Karl graduated from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from West Valley Jr. College, in San Jose California, and then went on to graduate from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, with a degree in Agronomy.

As his career advanced, he moved his family to Nephi, Utah, Panguitch, Utah, Ephrata, Washington, Roosevelt, Utah, Logan, Utah, and retired in 2003 as Assistant State Conservationist of Federal Farm Programs in Salt Lake City, Utah. He worked at Whites Ranch, Sportsman Paradise, in Paradise doing his favorite work with fishing and pheasant hunting, after retirement.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, riding his horse, and gardening. He played the organ for church in every place he lived. Camping and fishing were his greatest source of connection to God’s creation. He never stopped being amazed by sunsets. He could spot deer and elk from amazingly far distances, and knew where all the stripers were at Lake Powell.

He was a faithful member of Alpine Church and loved finding ways to serve and share how blessed he was to live near the mountains he called “God’s country”. He loved to support anything related to saving “farm ground” and preservation of open space.

He is survived by his wife, Deniece, of Providence. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer and her husband Michael of Oak Harbor, Washington and his son Ryan, of Falkville, Alabama. He has 7 grandchildren, Tyler, Catherine, Madison, Abigail, Benjamin, Hayden, and Hayley. He has 5 great grandchildren, Keelie, Trace, Julian, Wyatt, and Myles.

He was preceded in death by his parents Julian and Nadine of Greeley, Colorado, and brother in law, David Haakenson, Quilcene, Washington. A celebration of Karl’s life will be this summer with his family. We cannot thank the staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living enough for the kind and gentle care they showed to Karl. We all became family.
