Linda Fern Nieland-Smock

Linda Fern Neiland-Smock, 73, passed away at the Huntsman Cancer Institute on Monday July 3, 2017.Born on March 9, 1944 to Dorris Ann Shields and Ben Oglesby in Willets California she had a normal childhood and was adorned by all. Her father was drafted into the army but was released early to return to his children, which is when they relocated to the Bay Area where she attended and graduated from Ukiaha High School.During here years at Ukiaha High she met William Manual Avants whom she married shortly after graduating. They moved around the Bay Area with their three children until they settled in Heyward California where she found her career in the tech industry. Linda was excited about the large boom that was going on in Silicon Valley and determined to be a part of it she began assembling products for all the major companies. After her first marriage ended in divorce she continued to work with electronics and ended up meeting her second husband Harry Nieland. They moved to Oregon but eventually Linda and her family made it back to the Bay Area. Harry then passed away. After some time after his passing Linda decided, due to her love of technology, to brave the “new” world of online dating. This is when she met Shonnie Bridwell Smock, a loving man from Richmond Utah. She then decided to relocate to Richmond and marry Shonnie. Nothing could have been better in her life at this time, she adored her new home and her loving husband and all of his children. Shonnie and Linda were always together and shared a love that all of their children recognized and supported.Linda is survived by her husband Shonnie Smock, children Tammy (Faithful Friend Ponchito) Stavalone, Danny (Kelly) Avants and their 4 children, Tina and her daughter Jimina.She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy, her late husband Harry Nieland and a beloved dog named Bandit.A graveside service will be held Friday July 14, 2017 in the Richmond Cemetery starting at 10:00 AM. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cache Valley Mortuary, (435)-787-8514. The Nieland and Smock Families wish to thank Bishop Dent and the Ward Members for all their help and support in this time of need.
