Lonny Ray Kirk was born January 26th, 1951 in Great Falls, Montana to Alice Ruby Nelson and Cecil Ray Kirk. Lonn grew up as the middle child of three boys. His older brother Doug and younger brother Randy both reside with their families in Montana. He graduated from Cascade Montana High School class of 1969. He became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 18, and then served a 2 year mission in South Africa. After his mission he studied at Montana State University where he majored in English & Music Education, and most importantly, he met his future wife, and lifelong companion, Sharon Elizabeth Lee, who preceded him in death by just six months. The majority of his career was spent working for The Church at the Logan temple night security.
Lonn and Sharon had 5 children: Joshua (Carrie) Kirk of Providence Utah, Christina Marie (Ross) McGarvey of Millcreek Utah, April Dawn (who died last September), Sara Elizabeth (Martin) Slott of Plentywood Montana and Gabriel Nelson (Alexa) Kirk of South Jordan. They have 13 grandchildren: Caleb, Cara, Andy, Ali, John, Ethen, Rory, Pierce, Betty, Lemmy, Huxton, Anders, Monroe.
His family will never forget his warm hugs, his poetry written with beautiful cursive handwriting, his appreciation of music, his singing, his piano & organ playing, his ballroom dancing, his racquetball playing, poinsettias at Christmas, lily’s at Easter, the best homemade bread, South Africa mission stories, road trips to Montana, rainy camping adventures, dosing off and sleep talking while storytelling, his dedication to family home evening, the way he did everything for his wife through her cancer battle (while unknown to him he had cancer the whole time) and most importantly his example of selfless sacrifice and love. It will be impossible to forget the mark he left on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We will grieve but we will never despair! Until we meet again, we sure love you forever.
A viewing will be held August 16th at 9:30am with the Funeral to follow at 11am. All services will be at the Mendon Church.. Interment will be in the Mendon City Cemetery with a Luncheon provided after.
