Hyde Park

Mark E Lynne, 74, died Mar 11 at his home in Hyde Park. He was born November 6, 1950, in Albert Lea, MN, to Gertrude Louise Springer and John Evans Lynne. He was the second of three sons who grew up on the farm just outside Hartland, MN. He helped raise corn, soy beans & hogs, helped his mother with the chickens, and petted the cats. He attended elementary school in Hartland and high school in New Richland, graduating in 1968. After high school, he worked at the Herter snowmobile factory in Waseca, MN, where he honed his welding skills.

It being the Vietnam War era, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1970 and worked as an intelligence officer in the security service. He spent time in Texas, Japan, Turkey, and Shemya in the Aleutian Islands. After being discharged, he went on a road trip with a buddy and happened to pass through Cache Valley in May. He was hooked. He had plans to attend USU but took a construction job, and it stuck. He worked as a hod carrier for Bert Stokes, and they became lifelong friends. Building construction and carpentry was his career.

In Logan, he met his wife, Lois Walters of Idaho Falls. They were married in September 1975, setting roots in Hyde Park. Their three boys, Andrew, Bret, and Corey, learned how to work with their hands, like dad, and learned how freeing living humbly can be.

Mark was a craftsman in his wood-working ability. He prioritized quality work and good customer relationships, rewarding him with some lifelong friends.

He bought a piece of property on the west side of town that he wanted to develop, which led to an interest in city planning. He has been on the Hyde Park planning and zoning commission for many years. He became a resource of knowledge because of his history with Hyde Park. He also regularly attended city council meetings,, and these happenings were his interest and passion until his recent illness.

Mark was a Hyde Park Lions Club member for many years, participating in service projects, Memorial Day breakfasts, easter egg hunts, and regular socializing.

He was an avid reader of the newspaper and a listener and supporter of public radio.

Mark is survived by his wife Lois, sons Andrew (Kim), Bret (Camie), and Corey; and grandchildren Harvey, Maxwell, Taylor, and Zachary. He is also survived by his brothers Paul (Linda) & Earl (Ann) of Hartland, Mn.

The grandkids were Mark’s pride and joy. He was proud of their accomplishments in school and made it his duty to walk the nearby ones to and from school. He liked trading jokes with the out-of-town grandkids on Sunday morning video calls.

No formal service has been planned at this time. Cards and memories of Mark may be sent to his home in Hyde Park or his email address.
