Our beloved Spencer Cahoon, 55, lost his courageous battle with cancer and passed away surrounded by family, April 25, 2017. He was born Merlin Spencer Cahoon in Logan on November 12, 1961 to Arthur and Lucy Beth Cahoon. He graduated from Logan High School. Some friendships he forged there remained throughout his life. He moved to Elko where he was employed as a foreman at the Barrick Goldstrike Mine. Spencer’s feelings ran deep and wide. He maintained an integrity in expressing who he was and what he was about. Spencer loved being with family and every niece and nephew would receive the benefits of his teasing. He sustained an optimism and never allowed himself to be defined by his disease, nor to ever make it a theme of his conversations. Spencer loved motorcycles, cars, guns and guitars—their designs, workings, and maintenance. His Dad’s life in the USAF and Reserves at Hill Field took root in Spencer and he immersed himself in the history of aviation, and each evolution in fighter aircraft which followed. Elko provided a wonderful playground to enjoy his passion for dirt bikes and hunting with friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Sheri; daughter, Crystal (Josh) Kroush and two grandchildren, Livia & Colton, who lit up his life; Siblings: Jann (Miles) Peterson, Dwight, Catherine (Jim) Griswold; and his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. We are grateful to our cousin, Steve Berg, who gave Spencer wonderful support while he underwent chemo and radiation treatments in Boise. When Spencer transferred his care to Logan’s Intermountain Cancer Center, he remained in the loving care of his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine & Jim, until the time of his passing. The family would like to thank our oncologist, Dr. Sliesoraitis and his staff; Dr. Mark Firth who brought House-Calls-for-Home-Bound back to Cache Valley [see also, Transitions]; Access Hospice--to Marie, Diane, and Mark for their compassionate support and care of Spencer. Services under the direction of Cache Valley Mortuary. There will be a Memorial Service, May 6 at 12:00 PM (Noon) at Cache Valley Mortuary 80 W. 4200 N. Hyde Park. Spencer’s friends and loved ones are invited to participate in a celebration of his life.
