Michael Howard Summers, age 71, passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2016. He was born May 13, 1945 in Fullerton, California and was the first child of Mary Jane Lance and Howard Earl Summers. During the next seven years he was joined by three brothers, Dennis, Roc and Kerry. The family lived in Pico Rivera, California and in 1960 moved to Garden Grove. There Mike met Shary Keil who was attending the same high school. They dated for 5 years and married in 1965. They were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1967. Mike served in the US Army from 1966-1969. He later completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He worked in many different jobs through the years, one of his favorite being manager of the Trader’s Den sporting goods store in Logan, UT for 10 years. He is a member of the LDS church and served in many callings. He especially enjoyed serving 16 years in USU Young Adult stakes. He and his wife, Shary served a three year mission at Westridge Academy working with at-risk youth whom they loved. One of his greatest joys was being a temple officiator. Mike is survived by his wife, Shary, and four daughters, Sarah Jane Clayton (Brandon), Heather Winward (Chad), Amy Wilcox (Jeff) and Bethany Nivison (Jeremy); ten grandchildren and his three brothers. Viewings will be held Friday, January 6, 6pm-8pm and Saturday, January 7, 10am-1l:30am at the Providence Fifth Ward Chapel, 355 Canyon Road, Providence UT. The funeral service will begin at noon on Saturday. Burial will follow at the Providence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the LDS Humanitarian Aid program.
