Nancy Jo Walker Buffler
Logan, UT
Formerly of Marlborough, NH
At 89 with few options, Nancy signed off on additional care and died peacefully of multiple body-
system failures at Logan Regional Hospital In-patient Hospice.

Nancy was born on December 18,1934 in New Gulf, Texas to James Arch Walker and Frances
Parke. She was given the middle name Jo after her aunt Josephine.

She attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Science in Art
focusing on scientific illustration. On June 16, 1956 she married Charles Rogers Buffler. From a
long-time Texas family, she left at the age of twenty-one to move to Boston, MA where Charles
attended Harvard Graduate School. While there, she used her art talents to create manuscript
illustrations of ants for the famous Biologist E.O. Wilson. She claims that she was good at
drawing between the lines and even had a species of ant named after her.

Two of her three children were born while living in Boston. Charles and Nancy later moved to
Marblehead, MA where they made many life-long friends. They lived in many places over the
years including California, France (where her third child was born), Massachusetts,
Pennsylvania, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and recently Utah.

Nancy was a lover of sheep and border collies. She and Charles raised sheep on their beloved
Forest Hill Farm in Marlborough, New Hampshire. After Charles died, she later married
Lawrence A. Pierce at age 75, a long-time friend and former neighbor. They lived on the farm
until his death in 2020. She moved to Utah in June 2023 to be closer to family.

Nancy was predeceased by her husbands Charles R. Buffler and Lawrence (Laurie) A. Pierce,
sister Anne Parke Walker James, and daughter-in-law Sarah Vest.

She is survived by her three children Susan Buffler (Dennis Hinkamp), Joseph Robert Buffler II
(Sally Caudill), John Parke Buffler (Cathryn Davis), four grandchildren; Allison Vest, Jacqueline
Buffler, Dylan Buffler, and Charlie Buffler as well as four great grandchildren, three nieces and
two nephews, three stepdaughters, and brother-in-law Richard T. Buffler.

She is also survived by her last border collie Blossom who was lovingly placed with her New
Hampshire neighbors and friends Mark and Paula Mellor before her move to Utah last summer.
In particular, the family would like to mention her longest living friends Marilyn and Roger Taylor
(NC) and her dear friends in Marlborough, NH. Best friend Marica LaGrue, Sara Knight, Vic and
Judy DeForest, Jeannie and Scott Butler. Also, Laura Webber, Sandra Bigwood, Kay Butler, and
Amy Richardson for their caregiving and friendship over the last several years.

The family would also like to acknowledge the compassionate care of the aides,
nurses, and staff at Legacy House Assisted Living in Logan as well as the rehab therapists and staff at
Sunshine Terrace Skilled Nursing and Rehab and the many kind staff members at Logan
Regional Hospital during the last week and a half of her life. In particular, Erin (ER), Kelley,
Cody, Laura (Medical/ICU), and Ally and Kodey (ICU).

Nancy’s ashes will be interred at the Meetinghouse Cemetery in Marlborough, NH beside her
husband Charles at a to be determined date.
