Our dear mother, Ramona King Bingham, passed away peacefully on Dec.19, 2024, at the age of 95, at her daughter’s home in Smithfield, Utah.
Ramona was the fifth child born to LaVere and Leora Wiser King on July 13, 1929, in a little two-room home in Lewiston, Utah. Throughout her life, she held a great love and respect for her heritage. She talked fondly of her happy childhood memories with her parents and siblings: Thelma, Norman, Newel, Grant and Joan. In her later years, she still had vivid memories of her childhood and their loving home. Those were very happy times.
She attended elementary and Jr. High school in Lewiston, Utah and graduated from North Cache High School. She was a baton twirler for the band in the 8th and 9th grade and a cheerleader in 9th grade. She loved her years at North Cache where she made many friends who she enjoyed seeing at her class reunions through the years. Arriving with canes, walkers, wheelchairs or no assistance, she attended their 75th class reunion in the Spring of 2022.
She married Rulon Bingham, to whom six children were born. They were later divorced. She lived most of her adult life on a dairy farm in Amalga, Utah. When her children were a little older, she joined the workforce at Tots to Teens clothing store, then USU in Admissions and Records, and then retired from the Logan LDS Institute of Religion as a secretary after 25 years. Two weeks after retirement she was called to serve in the Washington D.C. South LDS Mission and later a mission in Salt Lake City at the Church Office Building, Joseph Smith Memorial and the LDS Historical Archives. She dearly loved serving the Lord. Mom had a commitment of love and devotion for the Savior and an abiding testimony of Him and the Gospel. We are grateful for her spiritual strength and example. She met the challenges that came her way with an abundance of trust in Heavenly Father’s plan. She served faithfully in many callings within the LDS Church in leadership positions, teaching, and music/choir director. She received the Golden Gleaner Award and graduated from the LDS Institute of Religion. She was a chapter advisor to the Lambda Delta Sigma LDS Church sorority and also area advisor over USU and Weber State.
She volunteered her time in public service as secretary, vice chair and chair of Legislative District #1 and a four year term on the Amalga town council.
Mom had many talents and activities that she enjoyed during her life: music, sewing, gardening, traveling, swimming, softball, dancing, handicraft and oil painting. Her musical ability and her beautiful soprano voice blessed the lives of many who called upon her to sing at church or special occasions.
She loved to travel and toured China, Tibet, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Israel. She also visited many places in the U.S. including church history and American Heritage sites.
She loved her family unconditionally, with all of her heart. She looked forward to family reunions and get-togethers. She was full of wit, life, fun and laughter. Mom taught us how to work, the importance of being honest and kind, and how to stand tall in the face of adversity. The greatest legacy she leaves behind is her love and devotion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and her cherished family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and 1 grandchild. She is survived by her children: Carolyn (Paul) Losee, Nancy Christenson, Craig (Geraldine), Kevin, Linda (Jay) Larsen, and Mark (Patty); 25 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Bruce Griffin.
Funeral services to celebrate and honor Ramona’s life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the LDS Church at 660 W 200 N Smithfield, Utah, with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 am prior to the service. Because Smithfield City Cemetery won’t be open on the 28th, interment will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11 am, 300 E Center Street.
