On Sunday, April 2, 2023, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Ramsden Bybee Salisbury passed away in North Logan, Utah, at the age of 96. Byb was born on May 31, 1926, to Adalue Bybee and Henry Salisbury.
Bybee attended Logan schools and graduated from Logan High School and graduated in 1944. During high school, Bybee began his love of “Big Band” music. That love continued through the rest of his life. He had a keen mind and easily committed things to memory from scriptures to poetry. He taught himself to play the saxophone and the clarinet and played in a jazz dance band with several of his friends. He also loved sports and played halfback for the Logan High football team. The most significant event in his school days was in 8th grade when he laid eyes on Patricia Faye Trotman and declared, “I am going to marry that girl.”
After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy V-5 (Air Force), attended the University of Dubuque, Iowa, and then was transferred to Northwestern University for further study. He was discharged in July 1946, serving the last month aboard the USS Springfield (heavy cruiser) before coming home.
Upon returning home Byb followed through with his high school declaration and married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Faye Trotman, in the Logan temple on August 1, 1946. Pat and Bybee were blessed with four children: Nancy Claire, Patricia Louise, Martin Bybee, and Ronald Boyd. They were Byb’s pride and joy. Bybee worked for the U.S. Post Office for 34 years and retired in 1981. After his retirement, Byb and Pat served two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They served 18 months in the Nauvoo Visitors Center in Nauvoo, Illinois. One of Byb’s favorite sites he served on was the Nauvoo temple grounds. Later they served as hosts for three years in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Byb had a strong testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and loved sharing his testimony. Byb enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, and baking pies.
Byb is survived by his children, Nancy Salisbury, son Marty (Idona) Salisbury, son Ron (Julie) Salisbury, 11 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, daughter Louise, grandson Jeremy Salisbury, brother Arden, sisters Ludene, Shaughnessy, and Betty Jo, both of his parents, and his in-laws.
A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 on Thursday, April 13th, 2023, at the LDS church located at 1255 N 600 E in Logan. Funeral services will follow at noon with Bishop Martin Salisbury presiding. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Chani of Maple Springs, Becky from hospice, and all other nurses and staff who have served Byb over the last few years. You helped make his last years as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. He always expressed, “They have the best people working here.” We wholeheartedly agree.
