Heaven just gained a funny one! Randy Vernal Blaylock (Ferguson) passed away from cancer on Sunday, June 25, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family in Logan Utah. Randy was born on September 13,1954 to Vernal and Joan (Ashliman) Ferguson. He lived to be 68 years old. Randy was the first of five children and was a beautiful baby. His mother signed him up for a baby contest and he won 1st place. Randy enjoyed growing up with his siblings. He is survived by his two sisters, Vickie and Sharlene and his brother Danny.
Randy always had a love for the outdoors. The Ferguson family were skilled Fishermen. They were so skilled that several newspaper articles were written and photos were taken of their amazing catches. Randy enjoyed spending time on the snake river and being close to the Shoshone falls. On the river, many conversations were had over Shasta sodas. He found refuge by spending time in nature. There were many camping trips, and a whole bunch of swimming when Randy was around. He would always make the biggest cannonball splash. He was an excellent swimmer and a skilled diver. He was always brave enough to be on the highest diving board at the pool and stood at the tallest cliffs. Randy was introduced to photography by his stepfather Walt. He worked at the Camera Center in Twin Falls. While working there he gained a knowledge and passion about how to take photos and learned how to properly operate a camera. He had a great talent to share with the world.
Randy also had a love for anything that had an engine or wheels. Many hours were spent on dirt bikes, four wheelers, and cars. He loved his high school car which was a Gold Nova. He loved to ride around and listen to his 8 track player. He enjoyed working with his hands and learned early on in his life, how to be a fixer of many things. Life wasn’t always easy, but he was a hard worker and never minded getting his hands dirty.
During his pre-teen years, he played the trumpet for the Junior High band and was quite the football player. Randy performed in the Junior High talent show with his friend Gary Marsh. Randy played the bongos and they both sang, Day-O, “ the Banana Boat Song.” To this day, it is a conversation starter and talked about as one the funniest skits to ever be played at the talent show. Randy went on to graduate from Twin Falls High School. He married Mary (Haskett) and they had two children, Michael and Angel.
Randy and Mary later divorced and Randy married Vicki (Mason) in 1983. They also had two children, Sean and Amber. Randy was a hard-working and loving father. He spent most of his career being an auto mechanic. It seemed like there was nothing he could not fix. He created many special memories with his family. Randy took his family hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and dirt biking. He spent countless hours playing video games with his sons at arcades and played video games with them at home.
In his later years, Vernal and Joan divorced. Randy’s mother was remarried to Walter Blaylock and the children were adopted. They moved their family to Twin Falls, Idaho. There, three more siblings were born into the family, Melody, Tanya, and Camia. Randy kept a close relationship to his father Vernal. He was the greatest big brother you could ever ask for. He watched over his younger siblings like a hawk. Randy cherished countless special memories with his extended family. He was the first born grandchild on both the Ferguson and Ashliman sides.
Randy was a simple man with a soft and kind heart. He went out of his way to help others in their time of need. Randy and his wife Vicki loved living in their country home in Richmond while raising their family in beautiful Cache Valley. They just recently celebrated 40 years of marriage and so are grateful for the many years that they have spent together.
Randy had an outgoing personality. He was always seen wearing a smile. He was approachable and always cracking jokes. His kids agree that he was easy to talk to. He enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz play and would often call his grandmother Lola and discuss the games. He was a good example of working hard to play hard. He was a fun father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Randy had sixth generation descendants on his Ashliman side. He was proud to have a photo in the newspaper of himself with his grandmother, mother, his daughter Angel and her children, and his grandchildren. Not many families can hit that milestone in their lifetime. Randy is preceded in death by his father Vernal Ferguson, his grandparents, Della and James Leon Ferguson, and Lola and Marvin Ashliman, Walter Blaylock and son in law Christopher Bowen.
Randy is survived by his mother, Joan Ashliman, his siblings, and his wife, Vicki Blaylock.
