Richard Jones Hill, (83), passed away on November 1, 2023 from the effects of Alzheimer’s.
Richard was born to Ray Murray Hill and Ellen Stuart Jones on April 6, 1940, at their home in Wellsville, Utah. He attended Wellsville Elementary School and graduated from South Cache High School. During high school, he helped his dad and grandfather log up Blacksmith Fork Canyon. It was during this time that he learned to work hard and be disciplined.
After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years in the Pacific Ocean on the carrier USS Coral Sea.
While at home from leave, he went on a blind date that had been set up by his Aunt June. That blind date led to marriage to Joan Niederhauser on August 9, 1962 that lasted for 61 years.
The newlywed couple lived in California during the remainer of Richard’s Navy service, and it was here that their first son, Richard Stacey, was born.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, the family moved back to Cache Valley and Richard went to work for Niederhauser Construction. They had their second son, Corey “J”.
Richard later went to work at the Defense Depot in Ogden, Utah until he retired.
Richard was known for his immaculate yard making sure that every blade of grass was facing the right way. He loved to fish, hunt, and camp.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, sons Stacey (Rose) Hill and Corey (D’Lynn) Hill, grandsons Jaxon (Kenzie) Hill, Peyton Hill, and Cannon Hill, brothers Darwin Hill & Randy (Cathy) Hill, sister Cindy Hill, and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Zac Hill.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living Center for the quality care they gave Richard and the many smiles they brought to his face.
Per Richard’s wishes, no services will be held. Memories and condolences can be shared at cvmortuary.com.
