Sarah Jane Summers Clayton, age 50 passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2018. She was born September
24, 1967 in EI Paso, Texas and was the first child of Michael Howard Summers and Shary Keil Summers. During the
next eight years she was joined by three sisters, Heather, Amy, and Bethany.
The family lived in Silver City, New Mexico before moving to Providence, Utah in 1984. Sarah Jane graduated from
Mountain Crest High School and Utah State University with a degree in music. While studying at USU, she met her
eternal soulmate, Thomas Brandon Clayton as they attended an LDS campus ward. They were married and sealed
in the Salt Lake Temple on September 12, 1996.
Sarah Jane’s passion was marching band. She taught band and orchestra at Bingham High School. She has
donated hundreds of volunteer hours helping the Mountain Crest High School and other Utah marching band over
a 25 year period, loving each hour spent helping young people enjoy music and band as she does. She was a
founding member of the Red Rocks Marching Band Invitational and served on their board. Sarah Jane passed that
passion on to her three daughters who have all participated in color guard and percussion.
Sarah Jane is survived by her husband, Thomas Brandon, and their three daughters, Amy, Abigail and Aubrey; her
mother, Shary Summers and three siblings, Heather Winward (Chad), Amy Wilcox (Jeff), and Bethany Nivison
(Jeremy).
Viewings will be held on Thursday, June 14 from 6-8pm and Friday, June 15 from 10-11:30am at the Providence
Fifth Ward chapel, 355 Canyon Road, Providence. The funeral service will follow at noon. Interment will follow at
the Providence Cemetery.
