Sioux Dee Fickas
70 years old, Paradise Utah, Died 3/30/2024 in Ogden Utah after a long battle with Dementia.
Sioux was born March 5th, 1954 in Grand Haven Michigan to parents Virginia Borman and Jack Gale. Sioux left Grand Rapids when she was 17 years old and moved to Las Vegas where she worked as a change girl at the Golden Nugget Casino. There she met Corkey Lundgren. Corkey swept her off her feet and the two married in true Las Vegas fashion, tying the knot in front of Elvis.
Together they moved to Logan Utah. Soon after arriving, they gave birth to a bouncing baby boy named Cody Jack. Two years later, they gave birth to a girl, Mindie.
Sioux worked several jobs before she found her “home” at Glausers. She started as a dishwasher and quickly worked up to a server.
She met her best friend, Cindy who introduced her to the world of horses. Sioux quickly fell in love and soon joined the Mounted Sheriff’s Posse. She rode with them for many years doing search and rescue and grand entry’s in the rodeos.
Sioux and Corkey divorced and the following year, Sioux married Jerry Fickas. They were married on New Year’s Eve on top of Mount Logan on snowmobiles.
Together they loved to travel, making many trips to Jackson Hole, Mexico, and Alaska. Sioux fell in love with Alaska, especially Lands End Lodge where they spent most of their time. She was truly in awe of the wildlife.
Sioux and Jerry divorced and Sioux purchased a home in Paradise. She started dog mushing and added dog kennels to the property, quickly filling them up with Sepala Siberian Huskies. Sioux was able to spend a few years running a dog sled team, winning some races before her dementia took over.
Sioux was a force to be reckoned with, a spitfire, and the true definition of “dynamite coming in small packages” always making sure to tell people it was her “German temper”
Sioux spent the following years in her sanctuary in Paradise Utah. You could usually find her cruising up and down the back roads by her house on her 4 wheeler, a pack of huskies following in toe.
She is survived by her sisters Kristi, Cheryl (Phil), her son Cody (Brittney), her daughter Mindie (Jamie), her daughter Diana, her grandkids Jordyn, Dylan, Saige, Ridge, Kaeda, and Court.
She is Preceded in death by her moms, Virginia Borman and Betty Gale, her dad Jack Gale, her beloved Grandma Borman, and her many dogs and horses.
For the time being, the family is choosing to do a small celebration of life in the coming months.
We would like to deeply thank the staff at South Ogden Post Acute Care, especially the Cambridge wing. We would also like to thank the amazing hospice team for taking such good care of her.
Mindie would also like to thank their neighbors Robb, McKenzie, and Jeneile. “You guys always helped me watch out for her and she loved you so much.“
