Warren Eugene Babcock

October 9, 1939 — February 9, 2022

Warren Eugene Babcock, 82, of Smithfield, passed away on February 9, 2022 in North
Logan, Utah.
Warren was born October 9, 1939 in Martinez, California to Nephi and Vola Lucille. An
only child, he was raised in Southern California. He served a mission in England for the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before attending Brigham Young University.
While at BYU, he met and married Karen Johnson. He received a Masters degree in
library science from BYU and earned another Masters degree in history from
Washington State University. He worked at WSU as a reference librarian for twelve years
before transferring to Utah State University in 1981. He worked at USU as a reference
librarian before retiring in 1999. One of his many achievements was receiving the Utah
Librarian of the Year award.
Both church and scouting service were significant aspects of Warren’s life. He served in
the bishopric and on the high council, helped numerous young men receive the Eagle
Scout award, and was a Silver Beaver recipient. From 2007 to 2008, Warren and Karen
served as Senior Missionaries in the Washington DC North Mission.
Among his hobbies, Warren enjoyed gardening, family history, and kayaking. He was
very people-oriented and often carried on full conversations with strangers.
Warren is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Karen; his children: Thom, Missy (Rod)
Stuart, Kim (Rena), and Soonhee (Marty) Blackburn; and 9 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at 1:00 PM at 79 E 200 S,
Smithfield, Utah. A brief viewing will be held before the services from 11:30 to 12:30.
Interment will be at the Smithfield City Cemetery.
