Funeral Service

Gary Bruce Hansen, 81, Trenton, Utah passed away at his home in Trenton on April 13, 2017. Bruce was the youngest child and 5th son born to Willard Alton and Syble Toolson Hansen at the family home in Smithfield on April 5, 1936. While dragging main in Logan, he met Joan Jolley and they were married September 18, 1959 in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. Bruce attended elementary school in Smithfield, then went on to Smithfield Jr. High. He then rode the bus to Richmond, Utah and North Cache High School graduating in 1954. He served in the East Central States Mission in Kentucky. He grew up on a farm in Smithfield with a dog always by his side. He loved farm life. He often talked about one or two men owning thrashers and would move from farm to farm with all the men, getting everyone’s crops thrashed. All the farmers worked as a team to help each other. One of Bruce’s passions has been the love of trains, both real and toy electric. He still has the one he got for Christmas as a boy and many more. The kids and grandkids loved getting the trains out and setting up track. It was a thrill for him when he was able to ride the train to Nauvoo and back to see his granddaughter get married. We have spent many hours and days chasing huge steamers around the country and had the thrill of riding one in Wyoming. Bruce’s mother had a beautiful player piano which she promised to him. He loved to hear it played and listen to everyone singing with it. They all knew that the first song they had to play was the Salute to the Armed Forces. He was very patriotic and proud to have served his country. We had had many a song fest around the piano. He was an active member of the Trenton Ward and served in many capacities. He served as a member of the Town Council and was on the Board of Directors for the West Cache Canal Company. We had season tickets for many years for USU Basketball. Bruce is survived by his wife Joan and his 2 sons Gary Bruce and Becca Hansen of Kaysville, Utah, and Alton Brad and Cheryl Hansen of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and 6 grandchildren Kelly, Kevin, Jennifer (serving a mission in Mongolia), Allison, Sid, and Stephanie. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Anna Lou Hansen of St George, Utah. He was the last leaf on the Willard Hansen tree but loved the Jolley family. Surviving are Marie, Elaine, Earl, and Deann, Kathleen, Lewis and Annette, Wayne and Kim. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Theron and Orris, Gaurth, Shirwin and Inez, Bill, and brother-in-laws Darwin Jolley, Art Webster, and George Miskho. Funeral will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, April 22, at the Trenton LDS Ward Chapel 1200 N 400 W with Bishop Ted M. Andrew conducting. Friends and family may call at the Cache Valley Mortuary 80 W 4200 N Hyde Park, Utah from 6-8 PM Friday,April 21 and at the Trenton Church from 10-11 :30 AM prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at the Trenton Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Todd Brown, The Dialysis Center, Rocky Mountain Rehab, and Rocky Mountain Hospice, for all of the kind care they have given Bruce
